hard place
durational performance research project
Activation durational performance research from Liaw's recent residency at AADK Spain (in the salt mines of Salinas del Curro), curated by Raegan Truax.
This project navigates the hard place within the body, imprinting between what is physical and the difficult, unravelling of inter-heritage. This project uses duration as a mode of arrival, where Liaw slowly sitting with the gaps of her Hakka language: speaking her father's native tongue for the first time. Switching between "ngung tee" and "lun tee" Liaw puts herself into strenuous positions in the space of her "hard place." Moving between what is physically hard, rough, sharp to what is emotionally, mentally difficult, Liaw moves with instead of against her "hard place."
